Morning Glow on the Appalachian Horizon
Art Sketchbook Journal Meditation on the Blue Ridge Parkway
I am thrilled to share my latest artwork, "Morning Glow on the Appalachian Horizon," a 14" x 17" gouache painting that captures the stunning beauty of an Appalachian sunrise in autumn. For me, this piece is a poignant dialogue between color and landscape, inspired by the breathtaking vistas of the Blue Ridge Parkway and my deep connection to Appalachian history and culture.
In this composition, I sought to portray the rich essence of fall, beginning with the vibrant foreground. Here, you'll find a tapestry of orange, yellow, and red tones that capture the fiery brilliance of autumn foliage. As your eye moves to the midground, the scene transitions into green hills peppered with vibrant trees, signaling the last vestiges of summer.
The background unfolds like a gentle whisper, clothed in pastel purples and blues that softly dance under the warm hues of a glowing sky. This transition into the distance invites contemplation and the feeling of being enveloped by nature's tranquil embrace. The sun’s first or last light kisses the horizon with a tender blend of yellow and orange, evoking a sense of calm and wonder.
My inspiration for this artwork is a blend of personal and external influences. The beauty surrounding the Blue Ridge Parkway never fails to stir something deep within me. Memories of Appalachian culture and the mesmerizing seasonal color changes further fueled my creative drive. Additionally, I often draw inspiration from the stunning images of the Appalachian Mountains that flood my social media feeds each fall.
Creating "Morning Glow on the Appalachian Horizon" was a unique journey, marked by my exploration of abstract impressionism. This approach allowed me to express the landscape with emotive brushstrokes and a vibrant palette, focusing less on minute details and more on capturing the essence and emotion of the scene.
I hope this painting resonates with those who view it, offering a moment of peace and a tribute to the natural splendor of the Appalachian Mountains. This artwork is more than a depiction; it is an homage to a region that continually inspires with its ever-changing seasonal beauty.
